RULES of GRASS VB
PLEASE be sure that everyone playing has familiarized themselves with OUR rules of grass volleyball. There are some differences and all games will be officiated by another team.
If there is a protest on a rule, final decision will be made by a tournament staff member. Judgement calls (doubles, lifts, directional blocks, open hand tip, etc.) are not eligible for protest.
Please remember that as a CEVA member, the Code of Conduct will be enforced at all times and that most of you may not have officiated a game as an R1. It's a learning process and one made easier through support and understanding.
If you or any of your team members have questions, PLEASE be sure to ask at the meeting prior to start of tournament, we will do our best to clarify these rules during the meeting
START OF GAME: Rock/Paper/Scissors will be played between the two captains; best of one wins and picks either serve or side. Teams will rotate sides and serve after the completion of each game.
SCORING: All games are rally scoring, let serves are legal.
SWITCHING SIDES: Because of wind, sun, and the ground, we switch sides during play & stay until set is over.
On sets played to 21/28 switch after either team reaches 11/14 points
On sets to 15/25 switch after either team reaches 8/13 points
UNIFORMS: Teams do not need to wear uniforms. You can play in athletic shoes with no cleats or spikes. Players may play barefoot, at their own risk.
PLAYING THE BALL OVER: NO directional blocking (includes pushing ball straight down - if wrists break, it is directonal), NO directional set over (shoulders must be squared when setting forward or behind), NO open hand tipping (fist or knuckles ok...if hand is open, "claw" or jab, the ball MUST have a visible upward arch), NO open hand receive on serve or free ball over - open hand receive on a hard driven hit and double contact on first ball is OK. Blocks do NOT count as a touch.
ROTATIONS: You do not need to rotate positions but you MUST rotate servers. Girls may attack ball from any area on the court (if middle back attacks ball at net, this is OK - GIRLS ONLY)
